Meet the Team
Stephen Hesselden: Harrogate
I was born and brought up here where I currently live just outside Pateley Bridge in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. I have been a Christian since my boyhood having first heard Gods call in a mission tent, in a field when I was 10 years old. I had no idea what following Jesus really meant though I knew I wanted Jesus to wash my sins away and that it meant Jesus and me being forever.
There have been many highs and some lows so many stony paths to follow (usually the ones that seem to be least trodden). As Jesus promised he has been with me always; though I have some times let go of his hand he has never let go of mine. I see it as a privilege to journey on, and encourage others to go through the narrow gate too.
I have been a Methodist Local Preacher since I was 21. I also spent a number of years as a volunteer holiday leader with Scripture Union, Oh the joys of a heavy rucksack and a soaking wet day on Exmoor’ One of my favourite Bible verses is Jeremiah Ch 20 verse 9. Its how I feel, ‘his word is like a fire in my heart a fire shut up in my bones, I am weary of holding it in indeed I cannot’ I have no idea why God should call an ordinary many times broken bloke like me, but I am so glad I can call him my Saviour, oh that others would call on his name too. I can echo these words of Charles Wesley ‘My heart is full of Christ and longs its glorious matter to declare; my ready tongue makes haste to sing the glories of my heavenly King’.
When not at work, in office or out on site helping in the construction of driveways I very much enjoy hill walking in the Dales or The Lakes, I also enjoy gardening, musical theatre and closely following though not avidly supporting Bradford City FC
