The story of Dave and the story of Saul Of the Holy Man Sam and Big Bad Gol.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

This story is true, the events I relate,
\nFour thousand years ago, approximate date.
\nThe Lord, the Creator of the universe,
\nChose Him a people, for better or worse.<\/p>\n

You listen up good or there\u2019s sumpn\u2019 you\u2019ll miss–
\nThat was in brief the Book a\u2019Genesis.
\nThey was a nation a\u2019 slaves at the end a\u2019 the line
\nSo He saved \u2018em all and moved \u2018em out to, Palestine.<\/p>\n

\u2018Case you didn\u2019t notice, that was a summary
\nOf Exodus, Leviticus an\u2019 Dooooteronomy.
\nOne half of The Bible is full a\u2019 their fights
\nAnd the name of the outfit was the–Israelites.<\/p>\n

\"01-samuel\"They had a few hundred years without no king
\n(They was Republicans or Democrats or some such thing)
\nThat\u2019s Ruth, Judges, Numbers an\u2019 Joshua as well
\nSo I guess that takes us to the prophet Sam-u-el
\nAn\u2019 I tell you man, it ain\u2019t no scam,
\nWhat I like to call \u2018im is the holy man Sam.<\/p>\n

Now the Israelites noticed each neighbourin\u2019 nation
\nHad their own king they gave total admiration.
\nSo the people they said. \u2018It\u2019s very plain to see
\nWhat we gotta be, Lord, is a monarchy!\u2019<\/p>\n

But The Lord He said to His holy man Sam
\n\u2018\u2018If I give \u2018em a king, he\u2019ll put \u2018em straight in a jam.
\nBefore you know, they\u2019ll be back in my face–
\n\u2018Lord\u2014we\u2019re between a rock and a hard place!\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n

But the nation insisted it wanted a king
\nI s\u2019pose it must have been a cultural thing.
\nSo The Lord he gave \u2018em their first king, Saul\u2014
\nAttributes for the job? Well\u2014he was tall.<\/p>\n

(I s\u2019pose that must have been a cultural thing– as well.)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Now as Saul was commencin\u2019 the role of a Royal
\nFor the Israelite nation things was startin\u2019 to boil.
\nFor background information I\u2019ll supply you next
\nWith the underlyin\u2019, local, military, context:–<\/p>\n

The Israelites lived inland in the hills.
\nAnd down by the sea were some punks\u2014called The Phils.<\/p>\n

(Phllistines, to give \u2018em their full name, that is. To this day it\u2019s become a cultural thing\u2014they call you a Phillistine if you don\u2019t got no culture.)<\/p>\n

The Phillies was always on the Israelites\u2019 back
\nAnd the Israelis didn\u2019t cut the Philistines no slack.<\/p>\n

Event\u2019yally Saul, in the course a\u2019 bein\u2019 king
\nTurned away from The Lord and he did his own thing.
\n\u2018Stead of puttin\u2019 himself under the Lord\u2019s dominion\u2014
\nTook too much notice of public opinion.<\/p>\n

Read 1 Samuel Ch. 16 v. 1-13.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

So The Lord he said to His holy man Sam,
\n\u2018Give Saul the bad news, he\u2019s no longer my man.\u2019
\n(Sam was sad\u2014he kinda liked Saul, I \u2018spose).
\nSo The Lord He said, \u2018Sam, stop your bleetin\u2019.
\nGit to Bethlehem an\u2019organise a new meetin\u2019. \u2018<\/p>\n

\u2018You gotta find a dude, his name\u2019s Jesse\u2019,
\n(Sam\u2019s about to indulge in some aromatherapy.
\nWith oil an\u2019 such).
\n\u2018No Saul\u2019s no good, just let him be.
\nOne a\u2019 Jesse\u2019s boys is the man for me.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cSo load up the oil and be on your way.
\nIf you\u2019re scared of Saul, this is what you say.
\n\u2018Hi, Jesse mah bro, we\u2019re all gonna pray,
\nSo git yo\u2019 boys an\u2019 meet me today.\u2019
\nAnd the people won\u2019t know, they\u2019ll just be sayin\u2019,
\n\u2018It\u2019s ol\u2019 Sam agin\u2019 for some mo\u2019 prayin.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018He\u2019s got eight boys an\u2019 they\u2019ll all come along.
\nTake your cue from Me an\u2019 you won\u2019t go wrong.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m gonna point him out\u2014the one I wannabee king.
\nYou pour the oil on his head\u2019\u2014(it\u2019s a cultural thing.)<\/p>\n

So Sam stands there an\u2019 they all file by:
\nThe first, Eliab, a real hunk of a guy.
\nSam says to himself, \u2018Man what a bruiser!
\nMust be the dude, he cain\u2019t be a loser!\u2019
\nBut The Lord says to Sam, \u2018Now don\u2019t you start.
\nI don\u2019t look at the pecs\u2014I go straight to the heart!\u2019
\n(He don\u2019t look at the pecs, He goes straight to the heart).<\/p>\n

Then Am-in-a-dab, he comes along.
\n\u2018OK?\u2019 says Sam. The Lord says\u2014\u2018wrong!\u2019
\nYeah, they all went by\u2014and out the door.
\n\u2018Nice boys,\u2019 says Sam. \u2018You got anymore?\u2019 \u2018
\nWell, there\u2019s only Dave; he\u2019s just the baby\u2014
\nIn charge a\u2019 the sheep.\u2019 So Sam thinks, \u2018maybe.\u2019<\/p>\n

But it\u2019s one tough job, on your own out there.
\nIn charge a\u2019 them sheep, in the dark night air.
\nJust you and The Lord and the moon\u2019s cold stare,
\nAs you face a lion and you face a bear
\nAnd you fight for them stupid sheep out there.<\/p>\n

Yeah the Lord knew Dave, He was with him there
\nAs he fought the lion and he fought the bear.
\nSo The Lord said \u2018Sam, this one\u2019s the flyer.
\nHis heart\u2019s like mine, he\u2019ll go to the wire.
\nSo Sam poured oil, but The Lord poured FIRE
\nAnd filled Dave\u2019s heart with His<\/em> heart\u2019s desire.<\/p>\n

So The Lord chose Dave as the Anointed One
\nBut he kept him in the wings till his time had come.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
