(Code Bible).<\/em><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Reread<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cvm.org.uk\/blog\/friends-of-cvm\/code-ode-11-identity\/\">Code 11. \u201cIdentity\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Recite this out loud:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our problem surely is ourselves.<br \/>\nWe seek meaning only from this World,<br \/>\nIdentity kept safe within ourselves.<br \/>\nOur gods are built on us or on this World<br \/>\nBut like all idols they have feet of clay.<br \/>\nThey\u2019re crushed beneath the weight of our demand<br \/>\nFor meaning; they can\u2019t cope in any way.<br \/>\nSome things gain the upper hand,<br \/>\nBecome addictions and destroy us.<br \/>\nWould-be good things, once they are our gods<br \/>\nFail or feed our pride or just annoy us.<br \/>\nTurning sour or soured by us<br \/>\nMoney cannot satisfy us;<br \/>\nMoney, though, become our god, will buy us.<br \/>\nIn all this we may harm others,<br \/>\nEven those who love us.<br \/>\nAnd the start of our bright gleams<br \/>\nOf selfless, brave humanity<br \/>\nGet smothered in the sweet daydreams<br \/>\nOf comfort-loving apathy.<br \/>\nAnd death will have the final say.<br \/>\nThe Master Joker has the laugh<br \/>\nOn us upon our final day.<\/p>\n<p>Unless, unless, unless;<br \/>\nMy identity does not reside<br \/>\nEntirely inside myself;<br \/>\nI don\u2019t have gods of this world,<br \/>\nBut another God, beside myself.<br \/>\nA God who is all good.<br \/>\nYou know\u2014that one;<br \/>\nThe God who, nailed to a piece of wood<br \/>\nDied in Jesus, a man, God\u2019s son.<br \/>\nI don\u2019t need to fight<br \/>\nTo build my self-esteem<br \/>\nIf, to my delight, it seems<br \/>\nIt was for me, The King\u2019s son died.<br \/>\nBut still I can\u2019t look down in pride<br \/>\nOn others when, to put me right<br \/>\nThe price was that He had to die.<br \/>\nI don\u2019t need to win your favour<br \/>\nWith some con or compromise<br \/>\nFor popularity is no great thing<br \/>\nFor me, because, to my surprise,<br \/>\nAlready I\u2019ve approval\u2014from The King.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m His forgiven friend, His fighter,<br \/>\nHis adopted son,<br \/>\nRescued from my flaws, from death, by Him,<br \/>\nNot because of any good I\u2019ve done<br \/>\nBut just because He is amazing.<br \/>\nAnd He cares for me, which is the same thing.<br \/>\nThat\u2019s who I am, that\u2019s me,<br \/>\nStrong in His strength, in that identity,<br \/>\nIn gratitude to live for Him and not for me.<br \/>\nStrength that breaks and then remakes my heart.<br \/>\nPower to control myself<br \/>\nBut blow my apathy apart.<br \/>\nBecause it comes from Him, there\u2019s no illusion,<br \/>\nNo room for pride, it clears my mind;<br \/>\nSweeps from my eyes the veil of self delusion.<\/p>\n<p>Those idols of this world,<br \/>\nAnd would-be good things, could-be gods,<br \/>\nNow have their rightful place unfurled.<br \/>\nSo I have a loyalty, a bond<br \/>\nTo an authority, beyond<br \/>\nThat of my family,<br \/>\nI can appeal to, to be strong,<br \/>\nTo discipline some wayward son<br \/>\n(A son who\u2019s loved but in the wrong)<br \/>\nAnd try to stop him being undone<br \/>\nBy this world\u2019s dark attractions.<\/p>\n<p>I can keep fit, free of addiction,<br \/>\nNot feeding some imaginary fiction<br \/>\nIn my head of me as Superman,<br \/>\nBut fit for Jesus to command,<br \/>\nWho both owns and lives in me.<br \/>\nWhat better reason could there be<br \/>\nFor keeping fit, addiction-free?<\/p>\n<p>Money, now, like all His gifts,<br \/>\nIs, in my hands, a tool, a weapon<br \/>\nI can use with all my might<br \/>\nIn His fight against oppression<br \/>\nIn His name and so to claim,<br \/>\nFor His name the honour and the fame<br \/>\nThat name deserves, without reserve.<br \/>\nSo may His banner be unfurled<br \/>\nTo everyone throughout the World.<\/p>\n<p>My security, safe in His plans<br \/>\nI can risk for others, in His hands.<br \/>\nAs through all falls, and loss I carry on,<br \/>\nHis hands will grip and work and never cease,<br \/>\nTill I, like Him, in beating death, become<br \/>\nAt last His everlasting masterpiece.<\/p>\n<p>If all this is true and I refuse,<br \/>\nThe Bible calls it \u2018sin\u2019 and me, a rebel;<br \/>\nSelf-centred on a course I can\u2019t excuse.<\/p>\n<div class=\"linkwithin_hook\" id=\"https:\/\/www.cvm.org.uk\/blog\/friends-of-cvm\/code-ode-12-identity\/\"><\/div><script>\n<!-- \/\/LinkWithinCodeStart\nvar linkwithin_site_id = 897245;\nvar linkwithin_div_class = \"linkwithin_hook\";\n\/\/LinkWithinCodeEnd -->\n<\/script>\n<script src=\"http:\/\/www.linkwithin.com\/widget.js\"><\/script>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.linkwithin.com\/\"><img src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.linkwithin.com\/pixel.png?w=750\" alt=\"Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...\" style=\"border: 0\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Read this: Anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person.
