Carlos Tevez and Sergio Aguero shared penalty-taking duties, and both scored another, while David Silva grabbed the other goal.

City were allowed to remain at the top after Norwich held on to beat Manchester United 1-0 care of a header by former United junior Anthony Pilkington.

The Norwich defence remained resolute under a bombardment of crosses and goalkeeper John Ruddy deserved credit for maintaining a clean sheet for his side.

Chelsea also slipped up away at high-flying West Brom. Peter Odemwingie scored the winner after Eden Hazard had headed home an equaliser.

England lost the first test in India by nine wickets after an atrocious first couple of days at Ahmedabad.
