The Stranger stood in the shadows of the stadium
\nUnnoticed by the spectators as they walked by
\nSo engrossed with expectation
\nAs the clock counted down towards the hour
\nFor the event that had been years in the planning to begin
\nHe moved amongst them as their anticipation grew
\nYet amidst all this passion He felt pain in His heart
\nBecause the question that was unanswered
\nHad they come not to glorify the Father?
\nOr to praise the achievements
\nOf the athletes who were about to compete
\nYet as the bell tolled and the ceremonies commenced
\nA thread was woven into the tapestry of the day
\nThat there is a way which brings hope
\nEven when in each competition there is only one winner
\nMany will receive a blessing from taking part
\nAnd the accolade they had done their best
\nBut as the excitement reached a crescendo
\nThe realisation began to dawn
\nEach one was made in the image of the Father
\nAnd it was He who had given them the skills
\nTo achieve the required standard
\nBut it is only He who gives greater benefits
\nThan any winning any competition can
\nWhy oh why are so many of God\u2019s people
\nLacking the desire to heed the call
\nTo be passionate in living for the Father
\nIn the same way as an athlete
\nIs when training to win a medal
\nSo when are God\u2019s people?
\nGoing to turn back to Him
\nHumble themselves and pray
\nSo that their land
\nCan receive healing from their Lord
\nOr are they going to be swept
\nAlong with the tide
\nThat is the Olympic Games?
\nHere for a while
\nBut then gone for a time
\nLeaving memories which will fade
\nAnd a line in the record books
\nYet the Father has something to give
\nThat is greater than any medal
\nOr life expectancy
\nA gift that will last for eternity.<\/p>\n
