Meet the Team
Peter Snelling: Purley and Kenley
I have always considered myself a Londoner, born and bred in Lewisham and raised on Del Boy's turf in Peckham. But many moons ago, I got married to Eileen and left the comforts of Peckham and Dulwich to move to the vibrant surroundings of Croydon!?
I had grown up in a Christian family, but it took me until I was 14 for the truth to start to sink in and accept that Jesus did what He did for me.
Sadly, no-one got alongside me and it wasn't long before I drifted, for about 25 years. It is that part of my life that encourages me to get alongside guys to ensure that they aren't left to drift but are able to get established and become part of a team.
I got established in Purley Baptist and after years of going I, and a mate Steve, felt that there was a need for a Men's work.
Weird really but, following that meeting in a local pub, Steve and I stopped on the way back to our respective offices in the City of London and prayed, on a street corner.
Bang, God answered the following Sunday when a lady at the Church approached us to say that she was concerned that there was little or nothing for Men in the Church. Wow, God had lit the touchpaper.
I have a strong desire/passion to see men coming into faith and growing into the men that God has created them to be, this I believe is His calling on my life. It's a gift that I will run with!
I feel that growth is helped by being a part of a team and teams win when they work together, remember 1966!
I feel daunted and yet excited by the adventure that is Men's Ministry and God's desire to use us to get His message into our communities and the hearts of the men we meet.
I got really excited when I came across two guys who came to the Christianity Explored course, it was great to see them seeking after the stuff about Jesus. Strange the way God uses us. I only went on the course as a support to the group leaders, but God wanted more and my friend base was increased.
Now that they have got on board with Jesus, it's been great to share this new adventure with them!
I have 2 daughters and a son who have left home, and 2 gandchildren.
In my spare time I enjoy snorkelling, jetski-ing, steam locomotives, the occasional beer, single malt whisky, Bombay mix and have recently started lessons in Lindy-Hop Jive.
