Michael Cooper: Network Enabler (South)
Michael was born in London but grew up in Maidstone. He joined the Royal Air Force at the age of 17 and trained as a Radar Engineer. His career saw him serve at Early Warning stations around the UK, concluding at RAF Ash, in his home county of Kent, in 1989. In 'civvy street’ Michael was employed in technical, managerial, and commercial roles in IT and Business Continuity, until redundancy in 2012 saw him take a career change - behind the wheel of a double-decker bus!
From an unchurched family, Michael ‘became a Christian’ as a young chorister. He experienced many challenges trying to lead a godly life growing up, particularly in a military environment. Following a significant and difficult life event in his late 30s, Michael recommitted his life to Jesus and was filled with a passion to share the gospel with men.
Michael joined CVM in 2013 and left his full-time role as National Director there in 2020, although continues as part of the volunteer team, working as Network Enabler across the south of England. In 2021 Michael took up a full-time role with Church Army and says he feels blessed to be being used by God now to reach not just men, but women and children too, through both these amazing organisations.
Michael is part of the leadership team in his church, where he is involved in preaching and teaching as well as continuing to focus on men's ministry. He is married to Catherine, who has her own Fitness & Wellbeing business, and has four wonderful children and, so far two, delightful grandchildren. He enjoys cycling and kayaking, is a keen supporter of Maidstone United FC, loves listening to Pink Floyd, drinking real ale and taking part in anything that involves getting out on the water.
