Meet the Team
Martin Whitehead: Sittingbourne
Martin was born and still resides in Kent and apart from short spells in London and Ilford he has always lived in Sittingbourne. Martin was brought up in a christian family and attended the usual sunday school, youth groups etc. He now worships at his home church of Holy Trinity Sittingbourne and feels very blessed to be part of a large growing vibrant church.
Martin leads services and intercessions regularly and looks after the mens team, The Kingsmen. This is a very active group of guys who enjoy doing a variety of blokey things. Martin had a lengthy time in Scouting and St John Ambulance before starting his nursing studies. He is also part of the Big Church Day Out team and has completed his SIA licence to be part of their security team. He has been a regular at The Gathering and was part of the suport team in 2016 trying to get everyone off the overflow camping field !!
Martin started his working life as a draughtsman for SEEBoard and then as a civil engineer for Southern Water. He then had a 'call' to go into nursing and left his career of 20yrs to become a student again. He graduated from Canterbury Christ Church as a Paediatric nurse. He has worked in a variety hospitals, the Royal School for Deaf Children, lead nurse at a childrens respite unit, and manning the 999 lines (now 111).
Martin cannot remember a time he hasn't had a faith and was blessed to meet his wife Sue, through the Royal College of Nursing, where they both found they had a mutual faith in the Lord and this has been the foundation of their marriage. They have a blended family, with 3 older sons Darell, Simon, Sean and twins Lottie and Mollie.
Martin is passionate about getting men to know our living God and tries to do this in an unapologetic blokey way. He likes real ale and going out with the HT Flyers on bike rides to bike 'cafes' and has an ecclectic taste in music.
