The Pixel Project – Men’s Room

The Pixel Project

The Pixel Project are an online organisation (State-side) working hard to bring awareness to the cause to end Violence Against Women. For those of you already involved in this area, you’ll know the horrifying statistics all too well. You’ll be familiar with some of the cases. You’ll know the scope of the task at hand if we are to see change and restoration.

There’s a section on The Pixel Project website called ‘The Men’s Room‘. They’ve correctly pointed out that if we are really want to see change, we need to see a change in the hearts of men.

That’s the massive heart-beat of our CODELIFE initiative (launching at CODELIFE 2010 – the CVM Annual Conference). A code of honour for men to live by, to use their strength to protect and not to harm. Redeemed masculinity where men live courageous, inspired, humble lives. Willing to sacrifice for others and determined not to quit.

Take a look at what The Pixel Project have to say. You can also follow them on Twitter.

“It’s time for a new kind of man.”

UPDATE: These guys are not just in the US – but operate worldwide – 25/08/2010

CVM has a fantastic scheme where we can offer church leaders a hugely discounted place at our annual conferences – this year Codelife 2010.

This year we’ve seen loads of interest in these places – which is fantastic news! As a result however we are now all sold out!

As well as this our regular places are moving pretty quickly too. So make sure that you reserve your place now, otherwise there might not be any space for you!

Countdown to Codelife 2010

Some thoughts from Joe on the upcoming conference …

I am unique. No really, I am. Not because I’m a Joe, with an ‘e’, when in fact I’m a Joanne, not a Joseph (sorry to those of you for whom this is a surprise, it’s a source of great amusement in the CVM office when I am called Mr, mate, esq etc!), but because I am the only woman in a country of 32(ish) million women to have the CVM conference in September permanently etched in my diary, and to have the great privilege of actually being there.

I probably spend more time thinking about, planning for and answering questions about it than anyone else…. just one weekend of the year that takes over a year to organise, but the truth is, I love the conference. I do, despite the fact that I’m so tired by Saturday night that I would kill for a few minutes in a comfy chair with a gin and tonic, but in reality, there is nowhere else I would rather be.

It’s not about the worship (which is brilliant), or talks (inspired), or food (mountainous and delicious), but about being in a place with hundreds of guys who believe the same thing. It’s about something bigger than a bunch of men meeting up, it’s about a coherence of vision and purpose. We’re there not just because we follow an all powerful, gracious, faithful, magnificent God, but because we recognise the utter hopelessness of those who don’t know him, and the ongoing crisis that faces a church where men are not a priority.

Well, from the 10-12 September this year, men are the priority. Why not come… hang out with other guys, hear what God wants to say, even bring your mates who don’t believe yet – there’s room for them too. It could change your life!

What Is Codelife?

The Codelife journey started about 2 years ago. For me it’s always when I’m not expecting it that I hear God speak to me. On this particular occasion I was in the shower.

Out of the blue an idea popped into my mind accompanied by a panoramic vision of seeing a movement of men rise up across the UK. I got out of the shower and wrote down 4 statements under the heading “The Code”.

If you are anything like me, I find walking with Jesus an up and down affair. Sometimes I feel like the afterburners are on and I’m slipping along at mach 2 and nothing can stand in my way but at other times I feel like the engines have flamed out and I’m in a flat spin!

I have looked for years for something that would help keep me in track. Something that would help me and my brothers walk with Jesus at work, home, church, on the playing field, over a business deal, in my relationships with others. Codelife speaks straight into this.
When I looked at it, “The Code” looked like a kind of modern day monastic ‘rules of life’ for men. Not my thing normally but I had that heart in my mouth feeling that you get when you know God is there with you.

Cutting a long story short, I took it to the team I work with who loved the idea but not everything I had written down (bit too much of me in some of the statements I think!)

So over the last 18 months we have wrestled to get to the heart of what we believe God wants for us. That initial 4 lines has now become 12 statements that cover many areas of life. Along the way we have had some amazing encounters with people who have felt similarly stirred and have seen God shine His light on us.

Imagine businesses signing up to the code as a kind of kingdom kite mark. What if issues such as sex trafficking got hit hard because men decided that they were going to take a stand. What if men decided that they were going to look away from the gutter but be prepared to pull people out of it? What if men decided to live once again by a code of honour with Jesus as their captain, brother, rescuer and friend. The possibilities are limitless, the potential for transformation, huge!

The Codelife movement will be launched at our September conference with the public release of the 12 codes and accompanying resources.
Join us for what could be the start of something amazing.

DEO OPTIMO MAXIMO!
