Porn

Nuts, a basically pornographic magazine has seen its circulation fall by 22.5%.  Zoo has fallen by 32.1% and FHM by 19.2%.

Good riddance.  You’re going down fast and I couldn’t be happier.  I’m sick and tired of seeing these “things” on the shelves of our newsagents.  I can feel the anger rising up every time I see magazines like this for sale.  I particularly feel it when I walk into a shop with my daughters.  How dare they inflict this on my girls.  How dare they send out a message that all women are objects of lust.  And how dare they demean me or seek to corrupt me by blasting images into my brain that I don’t want there.

I’ll be brutally honest.  I’m praying that Bauer Media (owner of Zoo, a particularly pathetic title) and IPC Media go bust.  Okay, it will cost people their jobs but I’m a man at war.  Enough is enough.  Its all gone too far and as far as I’m concerned, I’m going to devote a significant amount of energy into trying to cause as much hassle for the publishers as possible.  Let me tell you porn peddlers, theres power in “them grass roots” and a lot of us blokes “ain’t happy”.

By the way, you girls can join in too.  Below this rant is a list of all the titles published by IPC media.  Don’t just moan about it, lets fight it.  If we are serious about the sexualisation of society and truly sick of it all, then lets all stop buying the magazines listed.

In addition theres a campaign taking place to make ‘modesty wraps” a legal requirement.  That means we wont have to put up with the assault on our vision every time we walk into the newsagents.  At least it will help until they go out of business.  Mike Beecham’s the man behind the campaign and you can sign the petition here;http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/25536

Oh, and a quick message to the cooperative chain of stores.  Show some courtesy and reply to the emails about the campaign.

Don’t buy these titles;

mmm, there’s an alternative. Pray that they meet God! Maybe it seems ‘easier’ to ask God to put them out of business, or to attempt to do it ourselves, but far better that people come to God & that changes things? What chance do these employees have of knowing God if His people are trying to put them out of business? Far better to do as Jesus says & attempt to do some good for them, they may see Him in those kind of actions. I’m not comfortable with the idea, if it was to succeed, of sacrificing the jobs of 98% of the employees who’re doing nothing wrong.

I guess the other thing for me is that if you have the understanding that you talk about, then seeing the images shouldn’t make a lot of difference. If I value people as loved by God then why would I be affected by the other message that people are objects? OK, I’d prefer that IPC also understood that, but they’re not to be attacked, they’re to be treated well. Jesus’ harsh words were always for people who claimed to know God but acted hypocritically.

So I’m not saying do nothing, I’m saying pray for them that they will realise His presence. Pray for His people who already work for the company that they’ll be a great influence there. Jesus promised that he would act, not just answer, but act, if we pray according to who He is & what He would do. So why do some prayers seem unanswered? Because in God’s judgement that’s for the best. We need to align ourselves with His heart for people. We need to care about offenders as well as victims.

Happy to be shown that I’m missing something here!

Did Jesus pray for the traders in the temple courts? No. He put them out of business. The account in John’s gospel sounds like it was total chaos!

You’re right, but same as with the Pharisees, these guys were doing it under the guise of God’s work, i.e. in the Temple courts. It actually says He did it to fulfill prophecy, and actually there’s nothing to say that they weren’t back in business the next week.
Whereas people accused by the religious people of being ‘sinners’ – tax collecters, adulterers, prostitutes, those were the people that Christians have sometimes had a habit of condeming, but Jesus spent time with them. The people you mention who produce the wrong stuff are just another example.

He seemed to be most annoyed by religious hypocrisy rather than much of the other stuff. Everyone else needs to be shown the life they’re missing out on. It seems the ones hiding behing religion are the ones who need the biggest shocks.

I’ll shut up now as I guess once something’s in print it’s hard to change position. But we all need to constantly learn, I used to think I knew a lot of stuff that was more complicated than I thought.

  • Steve

oh, and it looks like from your statistics that God is already doing something about it, in that people are losing interest. That’s a bit more specific I think?

  • Steve

apologies Sam, I confused you with the poster…

The only reason porn magazine sales are falling is because of the free availability of internet porn. Magazines are now seen as very soft-core now. I’m glad the magazine sales are going down but this certainly doesn’t deal with the bigger issue and boycotting magazines won’t either.

So a lot of those titles do not even have pornographic images in them, seems a bit extreme to target titles which cater to a particular group, unless horse and hound has been getting more racier lately. I also see that the Sun, and the Sport aren’t on that list FHM= once a month, those two ‘papers’ everyday, what is the bigger threat
